Hardcore Happenings

Pathos

Currently, I've entered a new hardcore run, as preparation for finishing the Oxycore challenge. I'm not *really* trying, and of course, internetlessness during the weekends (and most thursdays) interferes, but hey, I'm enjoying it. My plan is to get the dual-wielding skill, and perhaps another (high-level) Seal Clubber skill or two, before jumping back into Oxycore. I'll simply see at the end of this run if I'm ready for it.

My chatmodding has become a bit hap-hazard as well, which is sad, because I feel that a more constant presence is a good thing for the chatters. They know who to go to and what to expect. Also, I feel the mod squad (even with the recent additions) has run a bit thin for the vast amount of players. Especially considering that we should start bracing for impact as spring break and the summer breaks are coming up.

There used to be a time that youngsters would use free time to run outside into the good weather and enjoy outdoors entertainment such as the hoola-hoop. Nowadays, with the depletion of the ozone layer and the spectre of terrorism (They Might Be In Your Backyard!), kids do the sensible thing and stay indoors and play computer games, such as KoL all-day. Amongs the vast amount of fine human beings, there's also the ungraspable amount of weirdo's, nutcases and utter crackerjacks. Which means that KoL chat will be rife with spamming, scamming, AOL speak, 1337 speak, attempts at cyber, RP fighting, flaming, and other jackassery. A particularly anti-authoritarian kind with out-of-control hormones is the modtroller. My kmail inbox has quite often been filled with an utterly unimaginative litany containing the words 'cock', 'cunt', 'suck', 'fuck', 'mother', 'ass', 'lick' and 'shit'.

The international systems of education can be proud that they've achieved to give their pupils a vocabulary that has at least one word that has two syllables. Needless to say, these people will quite quickly succumb to the ever-watchful eye of the Multi Czar and have their account disabled swiftly and silently by the in-company ninja of Asymmetric. The comment given to the previous post marks a new low however. One that I dreaded for a while, but only now has materialized. A stalker "outside" KoL. Personally, I prefer a style of modding that dares to position itself vulnerably and accessible. It's really pathetic how far someone is willing to go to air his e-grievances.

On the other hand, it's perhaps explanatory of declining crime rates that these people stay inside, play videogames and unleash their insanity on the web, rather than walk the street and act out their psychotic and distorted thoughts IRL.
